Making the Move from Executive Assistant to Executive

Happy 2018! I apologize for being a bit MIA over the past few months. Here’s what I’ve been up to:

  1. I hired an a Executive Assistant for Adam Hergenrother Companies (More on that later!).
  2. I took an opportunity to follow my passion for coaching and I am now CEO of Hallie Warner LLC (Yes!).
  3. I am a full-time Coach and Trainer for Beachbody and Adam Hergenrother Training (Got goals? Let’s talk.).
  4. I am no longer next to the corner office, I’m in the corner office (at home in Vermont).

Let me explain. Over the past several years, I have been informally coaching, consulting, and training Executive Assistants (and many small business owners and Executives) around the country on building businesses, leadership, time management, recruiting and hiring, communication, and more. With the launch of my blog a little over a year ago, coupled with some speaking opportunities, and then topped off with my Lead & Assist online seminar series last Fall, I realized that coaching is where I wanted to be. I loved being an EA, and later a Chief of Staff, but I could feel myself start to become complacent. Growth is my love language. At the end of last year, I knew it was time to shake it up, take on a new challenge, and really find out what I was made of. If you want growth and excitement (as well as panic, self-doubt, and overwhelming fear), then leaving a great career will do that for you!

Being your own boss is not for everyone and for the longest time, I did’t think it was for me. But, for years, in the back of my mind, I had the dream of working at home, for myself, and building a business around coaching (centered around my two passions – Executive Assistants and health/fitness). The decision making process was tough. I had intense loyalty and love for what I was doing as Chief of Staff and yet I knew I wanted more (more growth, more freedom). I wasn’t leaving a job I hated or a bad situation, which made the decision that much harder. I agonized over the decision for months and once I had worked through all the pros, cons, the good, the bad, the ugly (and then did that several times over), I took the leap. Often the hardest decision is less about leaving something bad, and more about taking the risk to leave something great, for something even better.

So, in a hot minute, I went from serial intraprenuer to self-employed entrepreneur – something I thought this cautious, risk-adverse woman would never do. But here I am. Sitting in my corner [home] office building my business and creating my life of freedom.

And it’s not easy. It’s not some perfectly curated Instagram story. It’s not an Insta-life. The hustle is real. I have a newfound respect for what our Owners, CEOs, Founders, and Executives are dealing with every day. It’s definitely not easy to be solely accountable to yourself (on top of the responsibility I have to my coaches and clients). It’s not easy to have 24 hours in front of you with no one but YOU deciding how to spend your time. It’s a fresh perspective that I hope to be able to share with all of you. Because at the end of the day, Executive Assistants are my people. I believe that Executive Assistants need to live more whole lives, gain confidence, understand how to communicate their needs and desires, and most importantly be okay with putting themselves first. Executive Assistants are the business world’s biggest asset. I want you to own it. And I want your Executives to know that you are all forces to be reckoned with.

I think I’ve had some pretty great successes over my career as an EA, and I have had some major failures. There are many things I would have done differently and I want you to hopefully learn from my mistakes, so that you are living your best life – today. You may be an assistant to the CEO, but you can become the CEO of your life by taking control of your time, energy, health, fitness, and career.

I’m here for you. Let’s make 2018 your best year yet!
